His appointment followed a competitive selection process, which Dr Staufer successfully completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The Young Academy Mainz is the early-career support program of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adwmainz.de\">Academy of Sciences and Literature | Mainz<\/a>. It admits outstanding early career researchers as well as young professionals in literature and music for a four-year term, supporting them in the further development of their scientific and artistic careers. The program focuses on interdisciplinary exchange, creative collaboration and the development of innovative projects in close connection with the Academy\u2019s established scholarly community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The profile of the INM scientist impressed the selection committee: \u201cOskar Staufer has an interdisciplinary background, with a degree in an engineering discipline, a PhD in biophysical basic research, and postdoctoral experience in translational immunology. He now brings these disciplines together in his research group. His work focuses on understanding how cancer cells evade the immune system. To this end, he pursues an engineering-based approach and reconstructs an artificial immune system in the laboratory, enabling the targeted definition of individual components and controlled studies with cancer cells.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Membership in the Young Academy Mainz offers Dr Staufer the opportunity to further expand his scientific network across disciplines. A particular emphasis is placed on dialogue across fields and generations, as well as on active participation in shaping the Academy\u2019s program, for example through self-organized events, new initiatives and interdisciplinary working groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Congratulations also go to Dr Stefanie Arnold, a former researcher in INM\u2019s <em>Energy Materials<\/em> Research Department and now based at Saarland University, who has likewise been appointed to the Young Academy Mainz.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:150px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr Oskar Staufer, Head of the Emmy Noether Research Group Immuno-Materials at INM has been appointed to the Young Academy Mainz.
