Leibniz Health Technologies Symposium | 22.03.2017 | Berlin

Biomaterials-based approaches to personalized medicine

Biomaterials are instrumental in individualized medical technologies targeting regenerative therapies, immunomodulation or diagnostic methods. In addition to direct clinical application, biomaterials play a key role in the development of advanced three-dimensional tissue and disease models as, for example, required in personalized drug screening.

The one-day symposium is organized by Leibniz Health Technologies and its institutes within the area of expertise “Bioactive Interfaces”. The event will focus on recent developments in adaptive and bioactive materials for individualized approaches of medical technologies. Beyond recent advances in biomaterials science, the symposium will cover the translational perspective, provide an industrial point of view, and give insights on related aspects of health economy and research policy.

The meeting will be opened by Matthias Lutolf (Ecole Federal Polytechnique Lausanne), a pioneer of cell-instructive polymer matrices, and concluded by Herbert Zeisel (Federal Ministry of Science and Technology). Keynote lectures will be presented by Georg Duda (Charité Berlin), Jürgen Groll (University of Würzburg), Wilfried Weber (University of Freiburg) and others.

The meeting will provide a comprehensive and interdisciplinary view on biomaterials in the context of personalized medicine as well as opportunities for networking. The participation of young researchers and students is encouraged.
